The Freedom From Religion Foundation’s “Freethought Matters” TV show has as its guest a city councilor who has received death threats after asking her board to drop opening prayer.
Emily Olson is a wife, mother, small-business owner and a new member of the City Council in the town of Owosso, Mich. In late November, at her first meeting on that council, Olson politely asked the council to reconsider its practice of opening with prayer. And then the fireworks began.
“It details in there exactly that God had given him a vision and that although he really doesn’t like me, he now has to protect me,” Olson describes to “Freethought Matters” co-host Annie Laurie Gaylor a particularly disturbing death threat that she has received from a frequent visitor to Owosso City Council meetings. “And so part of that is giving me this warning about how a man that matches his description is going to shoot me at the backdoor of my business on some night in winter, and then will leave in a car that’s exactly like his car. It’s a very complicated death.”
If you don’t live in the quarter-plus viewership of the nation where the show broadcasts on Sunday, you can already catch the interview on FFRF’s YouTube channel. New shows go up every Thursday.
