We’re previewing more of the exciting sessions you’ll see when you attend the American Humanist Association’s (AHA) upcoming 81st Annual Conference. The Conference will be entirely virtual again this year, so you can join us from your very own home, or even set up a watch party with your friends, family, or local group.
The main Conference sessions will be on Saturday, June 25th, and Sunday, June 26th, with a Kick-Off Social Gathering on the evening of Friday, June 24th. We’ll also have a series of networking and social events throughout the Conference so you can meet and connect with other attendees. This week we preview exciting sessions you won’t want to miss that highlight the importance of protecting the separation of church and state.
We are all aware of the threat of White Christian Nationalists, who are working to turn our democracy into a theocracy by dismantling true religious freedom. #AHACON22 will bring you a panel discussion on the issue, led by Andrew Seidel. Seidel is Vice President of Strategic Communication at Americans United for Separation of Church and State, and is well-known to the humanist community as an expert on the issue.
The author of two books—The Foundation Myth: Why Christian Nationalism is Un-American and American Crusade: How the Supreme Court is Weaponizing Religious Freedom (due out in September)—Seidel was also a major contributor to the ground-breaking report Christian Nationalism at the January 6, 2021 Insurrection. He is an attorney who has defended separation of church and state for more than a decade. Seidel will be joined at the Conference by a panel of distinguished experts.
Another session, led by AHA Legal Director and Senior Counsel Monica Miller, will review some of the important separation of church and state cases in front of the US Supreme Court this year. She’ll cover all-important issues including reproductive healthcare and abortion rights and taxpayer-funds supporting religious schools. She’ll also provide attendees an inside look at her recent oral arguments in the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals, defending against a government-sponsored prayer vigil.
Don’t miss out on these and other vibrant sessions that focus on the panoply of humanist experiences. And remember, discounted registration of $15 is available to all—but it only lasts until June 1st. Register for the Conference now to take advantage of the discount.
See you there!
